Woodlands Wines

Margaret River, Western Australia, Australia

Woodlands Wines was founded in 1973 by David and Heather Watson on Caves Road in Wilyabrup, making it one of the first five vineyards planted in Margaret River. The original site began with 1.2 hectares of Cabernet Sauvignon laid out east to west along the natural contour of the property. Between 1974 and 1976 another 2 hectares were added with Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Franc. Today Woodlands farms 10 hectares of mature vines. From the beginning the Watsons set out to craft classically styled Cabernet and Bordeaux-inspired blends. Their early wines gained a strong following and helped shape the reputation of Wilyabrup as a source of powerful but refined Cabernet. The vineyard has remained family owned and focused on careful viticulture, low yields and traditional winemaking. Woodlands is now recognised as one of Margaret River’s leading estates, producing long-lived reds with depth, purity and a clear sense of place.
