Established in 1998, Bellvale is a family-owned winery located in the lush Tarwin River valley of South Gippsland. This cool-climate region is recognised as one of Australia’s top Pinot Noir producing areas. Bellvale’s wines have received numerous national and international awards, reflecting the quality of both the site and the winemaking. The vineyard is marked by two grand oak trees that stand at its centre, a symbol featured on the Bellvale label. Owner, winemaker and viticulturalist John Ellis brings a unique background to his work. After many years living on Long Island, New York, he moved to Australia in the 1980s. His passion for wine began during his 25-year career as a commercial pilot, which allowed him the opportunity to explore European wine regions, particularly Burgundy. Before relocating, John planted Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot in the Hamptons during the 1970s to help supply its first vineyard. Over the years, regular visits to France helped him deepen his understanding of traditional winemaking and viticulture. Today, Bellvale focuses on producing site-driven wines with finesse and structure, with Pinot Noir as its standout variety.
