Red Edge

Heathcote, Victoria, Australia

Red Edge is a family-owned winery in the heart of the Heathcote wine region, established in 1994. The focus is on traditional winemaking techniques and minimal intervention to produce wines that reflect the character and depth of Heathcote’s ancient soils. Specialising in full-bodied Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon, Red Edge also grows a selection of European varieties including Tempranillo, Graciano, Mourvèdre and Touriga Nacional. Founder and winemaker Peter Dredge, together with his son Will, has expanded the original 4.5-acre vineyard, planted in 1971, to a total of 37 acres. All fruit is hand-picked from low-yielding vines, often producing less than two tonnes per acre. The wines are crafted entirely from estate-grown grapes in an off-grid, solar-powered winery. Ageing takes place in a mix of French oak barriques, puncheons and stainless steel, with bottling on site after 18 to 24 months of maturation. Red Edge is a true grower-producer, committed to crafting expressive, long-lived wines that capture the unique qualities of Heathcote’s terroir.
